How much does a Magento to Shopify migration cost in 2026?

At our fixed prices, a Magento to Shopify migration costs from $4,500 for a small store, $9,000 to $18,000 for a mid-size store with a custom theme, and $18,000 to $35,000 for a large or Shopify Plus store. Published agency price pages in 2026 quote $5,000 to $20,000 for small stores and $20,000 to $75,000 for mid-market. The three things that set your number are catalog size, how much of the theme must be rebuilt, and how many extensions have no Shopify app.

Redirects and 30 days of post-launch fixes are included in every tier; the tier page explains each line. Below: what moves a store between tiers, three worked budgets including the costs not on anyone's quote, and how to bring your number down.

What drives the cost

Seven things. The first three decide the tier; the other four move you within it.

  • Catalog size. Products, variants and images. Magento stores often carry thousands of disabled or duplicate products that nobody has looked at in years. Every one of them costs import and checking time if it comes along.
  • Theme rebuild. Configuring a Shopify theme-store theme is days of work. Rebuilding your current Magento design in Shopify's theme language, page by page, is weeks. This single decision is the biggest swing in the whole budget.
  • Extensions without apps. A typical Magento 2 store runs 20 to 60 extensions. Most map to a Shopify feature or an app. The ones that hold your own business logic, a quoting rule, a custom shipping calculation, a loyalty scheme nobody sells, need a custom piece each.
  • B2B. Customer groups with tier pricing, company accounts, net terms and quote requests push a store toward Shopify Plus B2B and the large tier.
  • Multi-currency and multi-language. Store views in Magento become Shopify Markets. Each market adds configuration, translation checks and testing.
  • Data volume. Ten years of orders is a lot of rows. Order history is included in every tier, but very large order and customer files take longer to import and verify.
  • Integrations. ERP, PIM, warehouse, accounting and marketplace connections each need a connector app or a custom piece, plus testing with real data.

Catalog size and theme rebuild explain most of the gap between $4,500 and $18,000. Integrations and B2B explain most of the gap between $18,000 and $35,000.

Three illustrative budgets

Illustrative stores, not clients. They show the whole first-year picture, because that is what you actually pay. Shopify plan prices are the published monthly figures at the time of writing; check Shopify's pricing page for current numbers.

Small store

Gift shop, 380 products, 1,100 variants, 4 years of orders, Shopify theme-store theme (free), 4 apps, one currency.

Item First-year cost
Migration (small tier) $4,500
Custom pieces $0
Theme licence $0 (free theme)
Shopify Basic plan, $39 a month $468
Apps, about $60 a month $720
First-year total $5,688

What the owner stops paying: Magento hosting, patching, and the developer retainer that covered updates.

Mid-size store

Outdoor equipment, 2,600 products, 9,400 variants, 7 years of orders, current design rebuilt as a custom theme, 9 apps, two custom pieces (a gift-message rule tied to categories, and a dealer locator).

Item First-year cost
Migration (mid-size tier) $12,500
Custom pieces (2) $2,300
Theme licence $0 (custom build)
Shopify plan, $105 a month $1,260
Apps, about $240 a month $2,880
First-year total $18,940

Optional care plan at $500 a month would add $6,000 and is shown separately because it can be cancelled in any month.

Large store on Shopify Plus

Industrial supplies, 14,000 products, B2B price lists for 6 customer tiers, three currencies, ERP connection, 11 years of orders, custom theme, 14 apps, three custom pieces.

Item First-year cost
Migration (large tier) $29,000
Custom pieces (3) $4,800
Theme licence $0 (custom build)
Shopify Plus, from $2,300 a month $27,600
Apps, about $600 a month $7,200
First-year total $68,600

Note where the money is. In the large case the platform fee is almost as large as the migration itself. That is why the Plus decision deserves a written recommendation, not a sales call.

What other agencies quote

Published agency price pages in 2026 put a Magento to Shopify migration at roughly $5,000 to $20,000 for a small store, $20,000 to $75,000 for mid-market, and $60,000 to $250,000 and up for enterprise and B2B stores (published agency price pages, 2026). Most of those pages then say the real figure depends on the store and ask you to book a call.

Our tiers sit at or below the bottom of each band, for two reasons. Our engineers are in Ahmedabad, India, and have worked on Magento since 2009, so a store scan tells us what the job is without a discovery workshop. And a fixed price puts the risk of under-estimating on us, which makes us careful with the estimate rather than generous with the hours.

The market is moving in one direction. Magento's store count has fallen by tens of thousands of stores since 2022 as merchants moved platforms, and migration pricing has become more competitive as a result.

The costs that do not appear on the quote

Every migration budget we have seen a store owner regret had one of these missing.

  • App subscriptions. The extensions you paid for once on Magento become apps you pay for monthly on Shopify. Typically $60 to $600 a month depending on tier. Insist on seeing the list with prices before you sign anything.
  • The Shopify plan. $39 to $399 a month for standard plans at published monthly prices; Plus from $2,300 a month on a multi-year term. Not large next to Magento hosting, but it is a new line.
  • Theme licence. A theme-store theme is a one-time fee, mostly in the low hundreds of dollars; a free theme costs nothing; a custom rebuild has no licence but a larger build fee.
  • Email. Three things hide here: transactional email templates have to be rebuilt in Shopify; your newsletter list and automations have to be reconnected or moved; and if your mailboxes are hosted on the same server as Magento, they need a new home before that server is switched off.
  • Payment gateway and fees. If you move to Shopify Payments, your rates change. If you keep an outside gateway, Shopify adds a transaction fee on standard plans. Run the numbers on last year's sales.
  • Your own team's time. Testing orders, checking products, learning the new admin. Plan for it.
  • Hosting overlap. Keep the Magento server one to two months after launch for rollback. Budget it.

How to lower the cost

  • Clean the catalog first. Delete disabled, duplicate and out-of-season products before the scan. A 6,000-product store that is really 2,800 live products drops a tier.
  • Choose a theme-store theme. If your current design is not part of your brand, do not pay to rebuild it. Shopify's themes are fast and well tested.
  • Prefer apps to custom pieces. An app at $20 a month is almost always cheaper over three years than a $1,500 custom piece, and someone else maintains it.
  • Limit order history. All of it is included, but if three years is enough for customer service, say so; import and checking get shorter.
  • Decide Plus honestly. Do not buy Plus for one feature an app can supply.
  • Consolidate markets. Four store views that each sell a few orders a month may be one market with currency selection.
  • Give access on day one. Delays in admin access, DNS logins and content decisions stretch every timeline and every budget.

Put your store through the free estimate. You get the catalog counts, the extension map, your tier and a fixed price within two working days, at no charge. Then hold that number against any hourly quote using the five questions in the FAQ below.

Questions people ask

Why do quotes for the same store differ so much?

Because most quotes are hourly estimates, and the hours depend on who is counting. One agency assumes a theme rebuilt from scratch, another a theme-store theme; one hand-builds every extension, another uses apps; one includes order history, another leaves it out. Ask each bidder the same five questions: is the price fixed, is order history included, is the theme rebuilt or configured, which extensions become custom code, and are redirects included. The quotes will converge or one will fall away.

Is it cheaper to upgrade Magento than to move?

Sometimes, for one cycle. A Magento 2 version upgrade is a project in itself, and it comes round again. Put the cost of your last upgrade next to the migration figure, then add what you pay each year for hosting, patching and extension renewals. For many stores the migration pays for itself within one to two years; for a store with heavy custom logic that works well, staying can be right. The estimate tells you which you are.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

Less often than Plus sales conversations suggest. Plus is the right choice when you need B2B companies with price lists and terms, checkout customisation, several storefronts, or very high order volume. If you have under 5,000 products, one currency and no wholesale, standard Shopify does the job and the migration sits in the small or mid-size tier. We put the recommendation in writing with reasons, and we say when standard is enough.

What is included in your fixed price?

Catalog, customers, order history, content, theme set-up or rebuild, extension mapping, app configuration, payment and shipping set-up, every redirect, testing on staging, the launch, admin training, written notes and 30 days of post-launch fixes. Custom pieces for extensions with no app are priced separately at $600 to $2,000 each and listed in the estimate. Not included: the Shopify plan, app subscriptions and any paid theme licence, which you pay in your own accounts.

How long does the migration take?

Four to seven weeks for most stores, from the signed scope to live traffic. Three weeks for a small store on a theme-store theme. Eight to twelve weeks for stores with more than 5,000 products, B2B pricing, several markets or ERP connections. Time is mostly set by the same things that set the price: catalog size, theme work and custom pieces. Your Magento store keeps trading until the switch.

Can I pay in stages?

Half the fee at the start, half at launch. Custom pieces are invoiced with the launch half. The care plan, if you take it, is a separate monthly amount you can cancel in any month. Payment is by wire transfer or PayPal in US dollars. There is no deposit for the estimate; it is free.
